Boat Books

The Lives of Jessie Logan is about New Zealand's first champion yacht which raced on Auckland's Waitemata Harbour in the 1880's and was restored in 2001.

"When yacht races were held in those days, they were great gambling events, the colonial New Zealanders were great gamblers. The public used to join in that gambling and the bookmakers used to come out and there used to be extraordinary sums gambled on racing on the Waitemata Harbour and Jessie Logan was part of that....
....Jones was probably the crack helmsman of the time, perhaps the Russell Coutts or the Chris Dickson of the 1880s and the boat to sail in those days was the Jessie Logan.
"

"In terms of restoration, much of the hull is original but we had to create everything other than the hull, the deck, the deckhouse, the sails, the rig. We had just two photographs of Jessie Logan in her sailing glory and they have been our guiding plans if you like."
